Job Summary

This is a unique opportunity for a highly motivated Research Associate to join the 'Alg4Nut' state excellence project, focusing on pharmaceutical biotechnology within the University of Greifswald. The role involves investigating the influence of marine algae, cultivable in the Baltic Sea region, on animal health, specifically focusing on the rumen microbiome and bacterial strategies for utilizing algal polysaccharides. Day-to-day tasks include the recombinant overproduction and purification of proteins/enzymes, extensive biochemical characterization, and applying these enzymes to break down algal polysaccharides. You will also conduct Omics analyses to study the physiology of key bacteria in the rumen microbiome, present scientific findings, and prepare publications. This part-time position (65%) is initially limited until March 2029 and offers the chance to pursue a PhD in the research area, requiring a Master's degree in Biochemistry, Biology, or Biotechnology and strong expertise in gene cloning, protein purification, and microbiology.
