Job Summary

This is a unique, fixed-term PhD position focused on Marine Biology at the University of Rostock, commencing June 1, 2026. The successful candidate will conduct innovative, qualification-oriented research within the interdisciplinary 'MitoCycle' project, investigating how mitochondrial metabolism adapts to rhythmic environmental changes in marine mussels from tidal (North Sea) and non-tidal (Baltic Sea) habitats. Day-to-day tasks involve designing and executing experiments on mitochondrial physiology and metabolomics, collecting mussels in coastal zones, performing complex data analysis using bioinformatics and statistics, and presenting results at international conferences. This role requires a background in Biology, Physiology, or Biochemistry, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in English. It offers the opportunity for scientific qualification (PhD) within a collaborative, international research team, connecting ecological physiology, biochemistry, and chronobiology.
