Job Summary

This role is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring academic to pursue a Ph.D. within the Big Data Analytics group at Philipps University, focusing on cutting-edge research in efficient and effective data management. The successful candidate will be deeply involved in developing innovative methods for automatic data integration, cleaning, and transformation, high-performance algorithms for metadata extraction, and data-driven technologies for modern Machine Learning and Data Analytics processes. Day-to-day responsibilities include supporting academic teaching, specifically tutoring in courses like 'Database Systems' and 'Big Data Systems,' contributing to scientific research projects focused on data integration and analysis, authoring publications, and presenting findings at international conferences. Key requirements include a very strong Master's degree in Computer Science or Data Science, foundational knowledge in database technologies, excellent programming skills, and a demonstrated ability for independent scientific work. This position offers significant freedom for self-qualification (Ph.D. project) and access to modern lab infrastructure and a highly motivated international research team.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Data Science, or comparable field, completed with a very good average grade. Willingness to pursue a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Data Engineering is expected.

Experience

  • Professional experience in scientific research and publication (demonstrated through thesis or publication)
  • Experience in Data Management disciplines (e.g., integration, cleaning, normalization) is ideal
  • Experience in academic teaching or tutoring is advantageous
  • Professional experience in software development (ideally verifiable through completed projects)
