Job Summary
The Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) is seeking a Scientific Researcher to join their 'Digitalization Road System' team for a four-year fixed-term contract focusing on Data Science and Mobility in Germany. This role involves cutting-edge research and development to analyze mobility behavior using GPS data, specifically focusing on how traffic reacts to disruptions and daily commuting decisions. The researcher will be central to developing, validating, and implementing AI-based procedures and Machine Learning models (like those using Python, PyTorch, or TensorFlow) to automatically identify routes, stages, and propulsion types from collected data. Key responsibilities include designing suitable data systems for large-scale data processing, defining technical requirements for system architectures (Backend, API), and ensuring scientific validation of results. The position is attractive for professionals with a Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Electrical Engineering who want to contribute to the long-term 'Mobility in Germany' study and pursue their own scientific qualification, potentially including doctoral studies.
Required Skills
Education
Completed scientific university degree (Master or Diploma - University/Technical University) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or comparable field
Experience
- Professional experience in the application of Machine and Deep Learning frameworks
- Professional experience with modern programming languages (especially Python) and data analysis libraries
- Professional experience in the conception of software architectures, backend systems, and REST-API design
- Experience in managing large data volumes
- Experience in KI-supported development (Codex, Github Copilot etc.)
