Job Summary

This role involves ensuring the reliable, secure, and high-performance operation of the data center's storage and backup systems, focusing specifically on enterprise-level hardware and underlying Linux environments. Day-to-day tasks include installing, configuring, and administering SAN directors, access switches (Broadcom), and core/edge storage systems from Hitachi (G5600) and Fujitsu (DX-series). The specialist will manage backup systems, including Virtual Tape Libraries and Tape Robots, ensuring tested recovery processes. A key requirement is multi-year professional experience in Linux server administration, ideally with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and good knowledge of SAN/Storage technologies. The position is attractive as it offers the chance to actively shape IT operations, drive automation using scripting (Bash, Python), and work within a supportive, collaborative team environment on complex, high-security infrastructure (BSI compliant) for the German Pension Insurance.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Bachelor/Diploma/FH) in IT, or a comparable IT qualification, or completed vocational training in IT with additional relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Multi-year professional experience in installing and configuring Linux server operating systems (ideally Red Hat Enterprise Linux)
  • Professional experience in SAN/Storage technologies or willingness to develop expertise in this area
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience, if education is vocational training or comparable practical experience

Additional

  • Willingness to participate in on-call duty, occasional weekend or night work, and occasional business trips (3-4 times annually) within Germany. Must pass a security clearance check according to the German Security Clearance Act (§ 9 SÜG).
