Job Summary

This role is for a dedicated System Administrator focused on ensuring the reliable and high-performing operation of the central data center infrastructure, specifically managing Storage Area Network (SAN), storage systems, and Red Hat Linux environments. Day-to-day tasks involve installing, configuring, and operating SAN components (Broadcom, Hitachi, Fujitsu), performing 24/7 monitoring, error analysis, and troubleshooting to maintain system availability. The administrator will actively contribute to IT operations by planning, documenting processes, and driving optimization through automation using scripting (Shell/Python). A strong focus on IT security and adherence to BSI standards is required. The ideal candidate possesses a relevant IT degree or equivalent experience, initial professional experience with Linux server configuration (preferably Red Hat), and knowledge of or willingness to master SAN/Storage systems. This position offers stable employment within a collaborative team environment at the German Pension Insurance Joint Data Center, requiring shift work and occasional travel/on-call duties.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university education (Bachelor/Diploma/FH) in IT, or comparable IT qualification, or completed vocational training in IT with additional relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Professional experience in the installation and configuration of Linux servers (ideally Red Hat Enterprise Linux)
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in the IT field (if relying on vocational training or practical experience instead of a degree)
  • Experience in SAN/Storage systems or willingness to acquire deep knowledge in these areas

Additional

  • Willingness to participate in on-call duties, occasional weekend/night work, and shift work (early/late shifts between 6 AM – 6 PM). Willingness to travel 3–4 times per year to other locations within Germany. Must pass a security clearance check according to § 9 SÜG (Security Clearance Act).
