Job Summary

This Research Associate role involves shaping the future of playful robotics research, specifically focusing on innovative Human-Drone Interaction within the 'DroneCup' educational and research project at Flensburg University of Applied Sciences. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, executing, and evaluating the DroneCup competition, which involves programming drones for student teams. Key tasks include conceptualizing and implementing technical prototypes for controlling semi-autonomous drones, especially for children and adolescents (UI/UX, Education Design), and conducting empirical studies. The role requires a background in Computer Science, Robotics, or HCI, a passion for human-technology interaction, and excellent German language skills (C1). This is a unique opportunity to contribute to scientific publications and potentially pursue a doctorate while working in an interdisciplinary, well-equipped research environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master's or equivalent) in (Applied) Computer Science, Media Informatics, Robotics, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field. Proof of recognition in Germany is required for foreign degrees.

Experience

  • Professional experience in research project collaboration (DroneCup)
  • Experience in developing, conducting, and evaluating competitions/educational formats
  • Experience with scientific publishing (required)
  • Experience with programming drones or interactive systems (advantageous)
  • Experience with child-friendly interaction design and usability studies with minors (advantageous)

  • The position is full-time and temporary until February 29, 2028. Eligibility for doctoral studies (Promotion) is possible. Must demonstrate team spirit, responsibility, high self-initiative, and enjoyment of working with children/adolescents.
