Job Summary

This PhD position is integral to the interdisciplinary CRC/TRR 225 research consortium, focusing on advanced Biofabrication strategies for creating functional kidney tissue models. The successful candidate will work within Project C06, dedicated to developing physiologically relevant in vitro models of key renal structures, specifically the glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) and proximal tubule, using automated 3D printing and biofabrication techniques. Day-to-day tasks involve optimizing biofabricated GFB models, culturing and characterizing hiPSC-derived podocytes, operating bioreactor systems with flow and pressure control, and validating models using microscopy and immunohistochemistry. The role requires a Master's degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., Cell Biology, Bioengineering) and proven experience in cell culture, alongside strong communication skills and a willingness to collaborate within a leading, interdisciplinary research network focused on reducing animal testing and advancing personalized medicine approaches.
