Job Summary

GESIS, a leading social science infrastructure institute, is seeking a Research Software Engineer to join the Service Strategy & Engineering department in Cologne or Mannheim. This role is crucial for the DFG-funded 'ScaleRep' project, focusing on developing, testing, and deploying a multilingual repository for answer scales used in cross-cultural research. Day-to-day responsibilities include gathering requirements, designing user interaction in collaboration with UX experts, conducting user testing, and independently implementing the repository, including technical data preparation for initial population. The ideal candidate holds a university degree in Computer Science or a related field, possesses comprehensive knowledge of software development using Angular or Java, service-oriented architectures, and DevOps practices. Strong database knowledge and familiarity with modern Microservices architecture principles are also required, alongside very good English skills. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to improving data quality and replicability in international social science research.

Required Skills

Education

Scientific university degree (Diploma, Master, or equivalent) in Computer Science or a related discipline

Experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge in software development with Angular or Java
  • Comprehensive knowledge in service-oriented architectures, including operation (DevOps)
  • Good knowledge of databases
  • Good knowledge of modern architecture principles for Microservices
