Job Summary

This role is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated PhD candidate to join an international research team at a leading university hospital in Cologne, Germany. The focus of the research project is the biology of stem cells in the larval Drosophila gut, specifically investigating molecular mechanisms controlling stem cell maintenance and cell fate determination, including the functional analysis of target genes regulated by the Tip60 chromatin remodeling complex. Day-to-day tasks involve executing the research project, performing complex bioinformatic analysis of high-throughput sequencing datasets (including single nucleus RNAseq and DamID), conducting genetic, cell biological, and imaging experiments using the Drosophila model organism, and teaching undergraduate medical students in histology. The ideal candidate holds a Master's degree in Biology or a related field, possesses a strong interest in cell biology and bioinformatics, and has mandatory good command of the English language.

  • The contract is limited for 3 years according to WissZeitVG (German Fixed-Term Employment Contracts in Research and Science Act). The position is part-time (25 hours/week, 64.94%).
