Job Summary

The Institute for Inorganic Chemistry at Kiel University is seeking a dedicated Research Associate to join the Photoactive Inorganic Nanomaterials group, focusing on sustainable technologies such as LEDs, batteries, and solar cells. This PhD-track position involves specialized research on Lanthanide-based Upconversion Nanoparticles for converting IR to UV/VIS radiation, with applications in catalysis and lighting. The role requires conducting scientific services in research, including the precise synthesis and characterization of luminescent nanomaterials, and assisting with student practicals in the German-language Bachelor's program (2 teaching hours per week). Candidates must have a university degree in Chemistry, specializing in Lanthanide-based phosphors and spectroscopy, coupled with experience in solid-state characterization methods (XRD, UV/Vis, SEM, EDX) and advanced Photoluminescence Spectroscopy. Excellent English communication skills (C1 level minimum) and a cooperative, independent work ethic are essential for success in this challenging and impactful research environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Chemistry, specializing in Lanthanide-based phosphors and their spectroscopic characterization. Candidates nearing completion of their thesis are also encouraged to apply.

Experience

  • Professional experience in the synthesis and characterization of luminescent nanomaterials using various techniques
  • Knowledge and application experience with solid-state characterization methods
  • Experience with in situ experiments at synchrotron light sources (desirable)

Additional

  • The position is fixed-term for an initial period of 3 years. The role is part-time (50%, currently 19.35 hours per week). Teaching commitment of two instructional hours per week (LVS) in the German-language Bachelor's program is required.
