Job Summary

The Federal Agency for Nature Conservation is seeking a Scientific Officer to join their team on Vilm Island near Rügen. This role focuses on assessing and mitigating the impacts of human-generated underwater sound on marine life. The successful candidate will develop evaluation concepts for anthropogenic underwater noise, advance the national implementation of Descriptor 11 of the MSFD (Energy Introduction), and contribute to a national underwater sound strategy. Key responsibilities include participating in national and international expert committees, providing input on permit procedures related to underwater sound, and conceptualizing and overseeing relevant research projects. This position requires a strong background in marine ecology, underwater acoustics, and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration to protect marine ecosystems.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Diplom-Universität or Master's) in a relevant natural science field with a focus on marine ecology/biology, landscape planning, marine nature conservation, physics with a focus on acoustics, or comparable.

Experience

  • Professional experience in assessing anthropogenic activities in the sea and their impact on marine habitats and species
  • Experience in biological and ecological issues related to approval procedures
  • Experience in developing species protection and re-naturalization concepts
  • Experience in the enforcement of nature conservation in Antarctica (beneficial)
