Job Summary

This role involves planning, implementing, and evaluating marine biodiversity monitoring efforts within Germany's exclusive economic zone (EEZ). The Scientific Officer will be responsible for developing and refining effect monitoring to assess human impacts on marine environments, ensuring compliance with national, regional, and international requirements (e.g., FFH-RL, VRL, MSRL, OSPAR, HELCOM) through active participation in relevant committees. Key tasks include contributing to data collection, processing, and analysis, organizing research expeditions, and preparing scientific reports and publications. The position also entails conceptualizing and providing expert guidance for research projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a marine ecologist or conservation professional to contribute to critical environmental protection initiatives within a federal agency.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Diplom-Universität or Master's degree or equivalent) in a relevant natural science discipline with a focus on marine ecology and/or marine conservation or comparable fields

Experience

  • Professional experience in national and regional marine conservation
  • Professional experience in marine monitoring
  • Professional experience interacting with nature conservation authorities and/or organizations in the marine sector
  • Experience in the conception and organization of monitoring programs and expeditions (desirable)
  • Experience in the scientific evaluation of data and the dissemination of scientific findings in relevant national, regional, and international committees (desirable)
  • Knowledge of cross-team integration and coordination of processes (desirable)
