Job Summary

This position calls for a Research Scientist to join the Institute for Ecological Chemistry, Plant Analysis, and Stored Product Protection (ÖPV) in Berlin, focusing on the 'FireSafeMycel' project. The core mission is to develop flame and insect-resistant fungal mycelium building materials. Day-to-day tasks involve identifying suitable repellent substances from natural resources, conducting laboratory experiments with various harmful insect species and different mycelium formulations, and meticulously documenting and statistically analyzing results. The role requires strong project coordination skills, collaboration with external partners, and excellent communication abilities for presenting findings at national and international conferences. Ideal candidates possess a scientific university degree, preferably a PhD, and proven expertise in applied and laboratory entomology, particularly in stored product protection.

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a comparable discipline, preferably with a PhD

Experience

  • Demonstrated excellent knowledge in entomological work with stored and/or material-damaging insects in the laboratory
  • Extensive professional knowledge in applied entomology, especially in the field of stored product protection
  • Comprehensive experience in conducting, organizing, and coordinating scientific projects with multiple partners from academia and practice
