Job Summary

The Leibniz Institute for Surface Engineering (IOM) is seeking a proactive Data Steward to establish and manage its research data management (RDM) framework. This role is central to supporting the institute’s research focus on functional surfaces and emerging technologies. Day-to-day responsibilities involve creating and updating the institutional RDM concept, setting up and administering RDM software, and providing essential support and training to staff in both RDM and software development. The Data Steward will also play a key part in securing third-party funding related to RDM or software engineering initiatives. Candidates must possess a university degree in a technical field like Computer Science, Physics, or Engineering, coupled with expertise in RDM for chemistry/physics or proven competence in software engineering and database systems. This position offers a stimulating, interdisciplinary environment, flexible working hours, mobile work options, and the strong prospect of transitioning from an initial two-year contract to permanent employment.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or Engineering). PhD in one of the mentioned fields is desirable.

Experience

  • Experience in software development
  • Experience with database systems
  • Expertise in research data management in chemistry or physics OR proven expertise in software engineering
