Job Summary

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) is seeking an accomplished Head of Department to provide scientific leadership and strategic positioning for the Magnetohydrodynamics in Geo- and Astrophysics division within the Institute for Fluid Dynamics. This senior role encompasses full budget and personnel responsibility for the department. A primary focus is the accountable management of the DRESDYN-Facility, requiring the planning and execution of cutting-edge scientific experiments, including the precession-driven dynamo and new liquid metal studies concerning Magnetorotational Instability (MRI) and wave phenomena. Responsibilities also include overseeing facility maintenance, scientific reporting, and publication activities. Candidates must hold a PhD in Physics, Fluid Mechanics, or a related technical discipline, demonstrating proven scientific excellence in both numerical simulation and experimental investigation of liquid metal flows. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to lead an interdisciplinary team, and a track record of successfully acquiring third-party funding at the national and EU levels. Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master or Diploma) and PhD in Physics, Fluid Mechanics, Measurement Technology, Modeling, Numerical Simulation, or a comparable technical field.
