Job Summary

This role offers a Technical Assistant the opportunity to join the Soil Laboratory team at the Thünen Institute for Agricultural Climate Protection in Braunschweig. The primary mission is supporting a crucial national mandate to monitor and report on carbon storage in German agricultural soils, vital for national greenhouse gas reporting and climate protection efforts. Day-to-day responsibilities focus heavily on precise laboratory analysis, including the measurement of total carbon, nitrogen, organic, and inorganic carbon in soil samples using specialized analytical combustion devices (CN and TIC/TOC analyzers). The position requires state certification as a Chemical, Biological, or Agricultural Technical Assistant, coupled with professional experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting these analyzers. Candidates must also demonstrate proficiency in LIMS and MS Office, alongside strong independent and collaborative working skills. This is an initial fixed-term position covering maternity leave, with the potential for a subsequent extension covering parental leave, offering valuable experience in high-impact environmental research.
