Job Summary

This role as a Chemical/Biological Laboratory Technician supports the cutting-edge MetaCom Metabolomics Unit at the Leibniz Institute for Plant Biochemistry, focusing on the analysis of plant metabolites using advanced techniques. The core responsibilities involve comprehensive sample preparation, including extractions and derivatizations, followed by the execution of standard and control measurements using complex analytical systems like LCMS and GCMS. You will also contribute to essential lab management tasks, quality control, simple system maintenance, and documentation, potentially guiding students and conducting plant physiological experiments. Candidates must possess a qualification such as CTA, BTA, or a Bachelor's/Master's degree in a relevant scientific field, coupled with fundamental knowledge of chemical analysis. Prior practical experience with chromatography and mass spectrometry is highly preferred. The position offers thorough training and work in a modern, international research setting, requiring fluency (C1 level) in either German or English. This is a full-time, two-year fixed-term contract starting in March 2026.

Education

Chemical Technical Assistant (CTA), Pharmaceutical Technical Assistant (PTA), Biological Technical Assistant (BTA), Medical Technical Assistant (MTA), or Bachelor's/Master's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or Biochemistry.

Experience

  • Professional experience in chemical analytical work
  • Practical prior knowledge in Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (preferred)
  • Practical knowledge of sample preparation of biological material (preferably plants)
  • Experience in independent and careful working methods
  • Interest and willingness to independently operate complex equipment
