Job Summary

This fixed-term, part-time (75%) Research Associate position at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg is integral to the "OptiLamia" project, focusing on optimizing Lamiaceae (medicinal and spice plants) and establishing sustainable bioeconomy value chains. The successful candidate will primarily engage in advanced molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA sequencing of wheat, barley, and Lamiaceae, genotyping, and gene expression quantification. Core day-to-day tasks involve preparing plant materials for high-molecular-weight DNA/RNA extraction, independently operating and maintaining Oxford Nanopore sequencing equipment, and developing species-specific sequencing protocols. Furthermore, the role requires executing PCR and qRT-PCR for quality assurance, implementing single-cell transcriptome experiments, and researching biosynthetic pathways of pharmaceutically relevant compounds. Candidates must possess a completed scientific university degree in Biology or Biochemistry, routine molecular lab skills, profound experience with qRT-PCR and microscopy, and fluency in both English and German. This role provides a significant opportunity for the incumbent to pursue their own scientific qualification (PhD).
