Job Summary
The Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon is seeking a Data Scientist to join the North German Coastal and Climate Office, focusing on geoscientific data analysis and web tool development. This role is crucial for making complex coastal climate information accessible to non-expert users through interactive digital platforms. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting extensive scientific data analysis related to climate change, coastal adaptation, and offshore energy, as well as designing and implementing region-specific web tools. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining and further developing the Coastal Climate Information Platform, acting as a digital infrastructure for project partners. The position requires a university degree in a geoscientific discipline, proven experience in automated data processing using NetCDF format, and proficiency with ArcGIS Enterprise solutions. This is a fixed-term contract until November 2027, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to major BMBF and DAM research missions.
Required Skills
Education
Completed university degree in a geoscientific field (e.g., Geoinformatics, Hydrology, Geography, Oceanography, or Meteorology).
Experience
- Experience in automated processing and analysis of scientific data, particularly in NetCDF format.
- Professional experience utilizing ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise solutions.
- Expertise in the field of coastal research and climate change.
- Experience in the conception and implementation of digital, region-specific web tools.

Additional
- Fixed-term contract until November 30, 2027. Must demonstrate independence and teamwork ability. The full-time position (39 hours/week) is fundamentally divisible, allowing for part-time arrangements.
