Job Summary

This role seeks a highly experienced (Senior) Scientist specializing in Materials Development, focusing specifically on novel products derived from secondary aluminum. The successful candidate will leverage extensive expertise in materials science, particularly aluminum metallurgy, to drive agile research efforts. Day-to-day tasks involve designing and executing targeted laboratory experiments based on scientific hypotheses, scaling successful findings up to full production trials, and utilizing metallophysical models to predict material behavior like phase formation and recrystallization. A key responsibility is acting as the central knowledge expert regarding how process parameters influence microstructure development. Furthermore, the scientist is expected to collaborate across business units and production teams, ensuring products are both state-of-the-art and economically viable. The role also includes coaching junior colleagues and actively participating in departmental knowledge exchange, emphasizing teamwork and scientific leadership.

Required Skills

Education

Completed degree in Materials Science, Materials and Process Technology, Solid State Physics, or comparable field, preferably with a focus on metallic materials and a PhD.

Experience

  • 5+ years in Research & Development or as a Scientific Employee (Post-Doc)
  • Professional experience in the processing and process chain of aluminum rolled products, especially the rolling process
  • Practical experience in statistical data evaluation
  • Experience in scaling up laboratory findings to production facilities
