Job Summary

This role seeks an IT System Administrator/Scientific IT Support Specialist to join the GFZ, Germany's national center for solid Earth research. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping the digital future of georesearch by ensuring seamless operation of the central computing infrastructure supporting over 1,600 employees globally. Day-to-day responsibilities include installing and operating servers dedicated to processing and storing scientific data, providing crucial First-Level IT Support using a ticketing system, and managing the lifecycle of client systems and workstations (deployment, setup, modification). A key component of the role involves creating and maintaining comprehensive IT documentation, including tutorial videos for staff, and actively participating in IT projects and system procurement. Candidates must hold at least a Bachelor's degree in Informatics or a MINT field, possess strong Linux administration skills, and ideally have one year of professional experience in IT support. Fluency in German (C1) and good English (B1) are mandatory for effective communication in this international, multicultural environment.
