Job Summary

This critical Data Scientist role is situated within the AI4Onco project at the Center for Integrated Oncology (CIO) in Cologne, focusing on applying Artificial Intelligence to enhance cancer patient outcomes. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with medical specialists, bioinformaticians, and IT experts to establish a robust AI platform utilizing clinical data for Data-Driven Prognostics, specifically targeting Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) and Esophageal/Gastric Adenocarcinoma (EGA). Key responsibilities span the entire Data Science lifecycle, including identifying research challenges, developing suitable AI models for risk factor identification and disease prediction, and ensuring their successful transition into MLOps operations (deployment, monitoring, and maintenance). This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningful, tested solutions to clinical practice, requiring a strong foundation in statistics, programming (Python/R), agile methods (Scrum), and team-based software development.

Required Skills

Education

Successful completion of a degree in Computer Science, Medical Informatics, Bio-Informatics, or equivalent, with a focus on Software Development, Data Engineering, or Artificial Intelligence.

Experience

  • Professional experience in Data Science projects
  • Experience developing and managing AI models across the entire Data Science lifecycle
  • Experience transitioning AI applications into MLOps operations (Deployment, Integration, Monitoring)
  • Experience in team-based software development
