Job Summary

This Doctoral Researcher position is based at the newly formed Institute for Sustainable Hydrogen Economy (INW) at Forschungszentrum Jülich, focusing on cutting-edge research crucial for the energy transition in Germany. The core responsibility involves investigating continuous Butanediol Dehydrogenation for dynamic hydrogen release, specifically utilizing pressure control mechanisms. Day-to-day tasks include the crucial setup and commissioning of a new dedicated test stand, performing detailed parameter studies, comparing various catalyst materials, and developing innovative test rig modifications. The successful candidate will hold a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Process Technology and must be highly motivated to complete the doctoral thesis within three years. This role offers the unique opportunity to actively shape the institute's development, collaborate with industrial and research partners, and publish findings in leading international journals, contributing directly to resource-saving economic practices and a climate-friendly energy system.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree (University level) in Chemical Engineering, Process Technology, Chemistry, or a comparable scientific discipline

Experience

  • Professional experience in setting up and operating chemical test stands
  • Knowledge of hydrogen and energy research (advantageous)
  • Ability to work independently and show initiative
  • Experience in coordinating with internal and external project partners
