Job Summary

This role involves comprehensive IT administration and support for the Chair of Algorithms and Complexity at RWTH Aachen University. The specialist will be responsible for the full lifecycle of IT infrastructure, including the installation, updating, and maintenance of servers and software, with a strong focus on Linux-based systems (Debian, Ubuntu) and server virtualization (VM, containers, Proxmox). Daily tasks include implementing and monitoring backup processes, managing user accounts and endpoints, and providing essential IT support for staff and research projects. A key component of the job is the continuous development of the IT infrastructure to enhance stability and security, requiring strong analytical skills in network infrastructure and messaging services. The ideal candidate possesses a relevant technical degree or qualification, excellent knowledge of Linux administration, programming experience in at least two languages (e.g., Python, C++, PHP), and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within international, interdisciplinary teams. This is a permanent, part-time position offering an opportunity to support cutting-edge research in algorithms and complexity.

Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training/dual study program as a Mathematical-Technical Assistant (MATSE) with a Bachelor's degree, a completed university of applied sciences degree, or equivalent qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience in Linux-based system administration
  • Professional experience in server virtualization technologies
  • Programming experience in at least two relevant programming languages
  • Experience with IT support and end-user device management
