Job Summary

This role involves the conceptual design, further development, and operational management of the organization's critical Backup Infrastructure and High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster. The specialist will be responsible for ensuring system availability, optimizing performance, and troubleshooting issues across these environments, supporting over 1,200 employees across nine locations. Key tasks include process automation using scripting languages like Bash, Python, and PowerShell, documenting system architectures, and providing expert support and consultation on backup strategies and HPC utilization. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, possesses experience in administering virtualization clusters (VMware, Hyper-V) and specific backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Data Domain). This is a full-time, permanent position based in Braunschweig, offering meaningful work within a federal research institute and opportunities for flexible working arrangements.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (B. Sc.) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or comparable field

Experience

  • Experience in operating backup solutions (e.g., Data Domain / Networker, Veeam)
  • Experience in operating virtualization clusters (e.g., VMware, Proxmox VE, Hyper-V) with GPUs and associated SANs
  • Professional experience with Windows and Linux system administration
  • Professional experience with scripting languages
