Job Summary

This three-year, part-time doctoral research position focuses on developing innovative resin- and membrane-based Mixed-Mode Chromatography media for preparative bioprocess applications, with a specific emphasis on polysaccharide-based materials. The candidate will be instrumental in generating scientific knowledge regarding Sartorius's current Mixed-Mode resin portfolio and understanding the complex interplay between ligand structure and matrix properties. Day-to-day duties involve leading material and process development projects, collaborating closely with internal stakeholders and external partners (customers, suppliers, institutes), and overseeing Bachelor and Master theses. The role requires a strong background in natural sciences, particularly chemistry or biotechnology, coupled with profound scientific expertise in liquid chromatography. This position offers a unique opportunity for application-oriented development work at the intersection of polymer, physical, and protein chemistry, requiring a structured, self-motivated approach and fluency in German.

Required Skills

Education

Successfully completed Master's degree in a natural science background (e.g., Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Biotechnology, Life Sciences) or a comparable natural or engineering science degree.

Experience

  • Professional scientific know-how and understanding of liquid chromatography, especially for preparative applications
  • Interest in application-oriented development work at the interface of polymer and physical chemistry, resin/membrane technology, and protein chemistry
  • Experience in planning and distributing tasks
  • Experience in direct supervision of Bachelor and Master theses
