Job Summary

This role is for a System Designer to join the City of Freiburg's i-Team, participating in the prestigious Bloomberg Philanthropies program aimed at developing and implementing solutions for urgent local challenges. The successful candidate will lead and moderate complex design and innovation processes, focusing on creating new governance structures within the municipal environment. Day-to-day responsibilities include applying participatory methods such as Deep Listening and Co-creation, conducting rigorous qualitative research, developing and testing prototypes, and iteratively designing pilot projects. You will be responsible for visualizing outcomes using tools like Journey Maps and Service Blueprints. Key requirements include a university degree in Strategic Design, Service Design, or a related field, coupled with strong conceptual, strategic, and project management skills. Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree in Strategic Design, Service Design, Interaction Design, Urban/Regional Planning, Social Sciences, Administrative Sciences, System Sciences, Transformation Studies, Innovation Management, or a STEM field. Alternatively, a completed university degree combined with several years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Professional experience in innovation and transformation processes (advantageous)
  • Experience in design and innovation processes within the public sector, urban transformation, or participatory strategy development (preferred)
  • Experience within public, state, or municipal structures/corporations, or politically affiliated organizations (preferred)
  • Experience in interdisciplinary projects with a societal or urban focus

Additional

  • The position is part-time (50%). The role is initially limited until August 31, 2028, although the contract duration is unlimited (unbefristet). Must be located in or willing to commute to Freiburg i.Br.
