Job Summary

This position at the Leibniz Institute for Photonic Technologies (Leibniz-IPHT) in Jena is available as a full-time Research Associate (2-year contract) or a part-time PhD Candidate (3-year contract), starting January 1, 2026. The role is central to the European PhotonMed project, focusing on developing pilot lines for in-vitro and in-vivo diagnostic applications. The successful candidate will investigate cell-drug interactions using novel combinations of Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) and vibrational spectroscopic techniques (Raman and Infrared). Daily tasks include preparing and measuring cells on SPR cartridges, characterizing a Point-of-Care Raman system, and designing a fiber optic coupler for Raman spectrum acquisition. Key qualifications include a Master’s or PhD in Natural/Life Sciences, coupled with advanced practical experience in spectroscopy, cell cultivation, and the design and construction of complex optical setups. The institute offers an inclusive, interdisciplinary environment with world-class facilities and comprehensive training.
