Job Summary

This role involves working as a Technical Assistant within the Epidemiology/Vectors department at the Institute for Plant Protection in Fruit and Viticulture. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting molecular biological diagnosis and characterization of phytoplasmas and other vector-borne pathogens in plants and insects. Key daily tasks include performing laboratory, greenhouse, and field studies to assess the vector efficiency of plant-sucking insects, establishing and maintaining leafhopper colonies, and supporting field investigations on the epidemiology of vector-borne vine diseases. The position requires a completed technical assistant qualification or equivalent experience, particularly in molecular biology, microbiology, and handling insects in field trials. This is an engaging and demanding part-time position (19.5 hours/week) in an international research environment, offering valuable experience in plant pathology and entomology research.

Required Skills

Education

Completed training as a Technical Assistant or Biology Laboratory Technician, or equivalent qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience as a technical assistant or biology laboratory technician
  • Relevant professional experience with molecular biological and microbiological working techniques
  • Experience in handling insects and conducting field experiments, preferably in viticulture or horticulture
  • Knowledge of Homoptera species is advantageous
