Job Summary

This role involves working as a scientific expert within the Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt - BKA), specializing in image and video signal processing, with a strong focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The expert will primarily handle forensic investigation requests, focusing specifically on the analysis of AI-generated or manipulated images and videos. Key responsibilities include preparing scientifically sound expert reports for court proceedings, conducting and conceptualizing research and development (R&D) projects to advance forensic investigation methods, and representing German criminal technology nationally and internationally. The ideal candidate must possess a scientific university degree in a MINT field (STEM) with an IT component, preferably specializing in generative AI and image/video analysis, and must be prepared to handle potentially disturbing investigative material. This position offers a meaningful, challenging role supporting crime resolution in both national and international contexts.

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree (Diplom, Magister, or Master) in a MINT (STEM) field with an IT component (e.g., Mathematics, Computer Science, Multimedia Forensics, or comparable), preferably with a specialization in (Generative) AI and Image/Video Analysis.

Experience

  • Professional experience in image and video analysis
  • Practical experience in the production, detection, and analysis of artificially generated or manipulated image and video data using AI
  • Experience in research and development activities (FuE)
  • Experience in presenting technical content to non-experts

Languages

German (Fluent)

  • Willingness to undergo a simple security clearance (SÜG § 8); Consent to provide a DNA sample for internal reference database purposes; Willingness to process investigation material with potentially disturbing or traumatizing content; Willingness to undertake domestic and international business travel (up to 4 times a year, 1 day to 1 week in length); Flexible working hours required due to case handling and R&D activities.
