Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to pursue a PhD in Machine Learning for Underwater Image and Video Data at the University of Rostock. The role involves independently conducting a research project focused on developing and applying Deep Learning methods for analyzing underwater visual data, particularly for object recognition, segmentation, and representation of marine habitats. Key responsibilities include programming open-source software, writing scientific publications for top conferences and journals, and collaborating with international and interdisciplinary partners. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, practical experience with Machine Learning for marine applications, and excellent programming skills in Python and PyTorch. This interdisciplinary project offers a unique chance to contribute to environmental monitoring, offshore wind park analysis, and marine ecosystem simulation.
Required Skills
Education
Completed university degree (Diplom, Master, or comparable) in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with at least a good result. PhD pursuit is a core component of this role.

- Professional experience in Machine Learning for maritime and marine underwater applications
- At least one published scientific paper in the field of underwater Machine Learning
