Job Summary

This role involves providing essential technical support within the Veterinary Pathology department of the State Laboratory in Neumünster, focusing on disease and cause-of-death investigations for livestock, domestic, wild, and zoo animals. Daily tasks include the acceptance and processing of animal carcasses and parts, requiring the operation of a crane for large animals (training provided). You will be responsible for data entry, preparing and conducting the dissection of animal bodies and organs according to laboratory methods, and performing sample collection and organ preparation. The position also involves photographic documentation, sample distribution to other labs, and supporting technical activities in the Histology laboratory, all while adhering to strict hygiene protocols. Key requirements include a relevant technical qualification (e.g., veterinary assistant, butcher, or equivalent experience) and fundamental knowledge of animal anatomy. This is a crucial, demanding part-time role (19.35 hours/week) supporting public health and animal disease control efforts in Schleswig-Holstein.

Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training (Preparation Technical Assistant, Veterinary Specialist Assistant, or Butcher) or comparable qualification.

Experience

  • Completed training as a Preparation Technical Assistant, Veterinary Specialist Assistant, or Butcher
  • Experience as a Hunter or Farmer with experience in livestock farming and home slaughtering, or comparable qualifications
  • Professional experience in technical activities related to pathology or animal handling

  • Driver's License Class B required; Must not have animal hair allergies, immune suppression, or specific restrictions regarding the wearing of protective masks; Physical resilience required; Willingness to obtain a Crane Operator's License (for large animals).
