Job Summary

This Senior Software Engineer role places you at the core of Zalando's Search Platform Team, responsible for powering product discovery for over 51 million customers across 26 markets. You will be instrumental in architecting the next-generation, AI-driven search engine, specifically integrating Neural Search capabilities on top of the existing Elasticsearch platform. A key focus will be building for hyperscale by modernizing and scaling real-time data ingestion systems, leveraging technologies like Kafka and Flink to handle millions of updates efficiently. Candidates must possess in-depth experience building large-scale e-commerce search engines (using Lucene, Elasticsearch, or Solr) and demonstrate strong proficiency in a JVM language and distributed systems. The position requires excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with applied scientists and product partners, translating complex requirements into reliable, reusable platform capabilities.
