Job Summary

The Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Jena is seeking a dedicated and experienced scientist to lead its central Radiocarbon (14C) Laboratory. This pivotal role involves overseeing a team of three, managing the preparation of samples for 14C measurements using Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS), and ensuring the highest quality standards for all analyses. The successful candidate will be instrumental in optimizing the lab's operations, developing new methodologies for radiocarbon applications, and collaborating closely with institute scientists on biogeochemical research projects. Required Skills

Education

PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or comparable qualifications

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in AMS radiocarbon analysis and its applications
  • Experience in the design, testing, and operation of systems for sample preparation and AMS measurement of radiocarbon from microgram to milligram range samples
  • Leadership experience in a laboratory setting
  • Professional experience in developing methods for sample preparation and radiocarbon measurements
