Job Summary

The Julius Kühn Institute (JKI) in Berlin is seeking a Technical Assistant to support scientific research in phytochemistry, focusing on plant-fungus-insect interactions. This role involves comprehensive laboratory and field work, including cultivating and monitoring plants, preparing and processing samples for UPLC-MS or GC-MS analysis, and conducting bioactivity tests with microorganisms and insects. The successful candidate will also manage laboratory operations, maintain cultures and insect breeding, and meticulously document experimental data. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented professional with a background in biological sciences to contribute to sustainable plant protection research within a multidisciplinary and international environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed training as a biological technical assistant or biology lab technician

Experience

  • Professional experience as a biological technical assistant or biology lab technician, preferably with relevant professional experience
  • Extensive experience in conducting laboratory and field experiments with plants
  • Basic experience with microorganisms (fungi, bacteria) in S1 area and insects, including cultivation/maintenance
  • Basic experience in microscopy of microorganisms and damage patterns
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of sampling, sample preservation, and sample extraction methods
  • Basic experience and knowledge in handling HPLC-based fractionation procedures

Additional

  • Class B (III) driver's license and willingness to drive official vehicles and undertake multi-day business trips for sample collection.
