Job Summary
This role at the General Directorate for Waterways and Shipping (GDWS) in Hanover is ideal for a recent graduate in Computer Science looking to kickstart their career in IT administration. You will be responsible for the comprehensive support and maintenance of IT workstations, servers (physical and virtual), network infrastructure, and IT security systems. Key tasks include administering proxy, firewall, and antivirus solutions, ensuring data backup, and contributing to the planning and procurement of new hardware and software. This position offers a unique opportunity to apply your academic knowledge in a practical, public sector environment, focusing on system stability, security, and user support, while working within a supportive team and contributing to critical infrastructure.
Required Skills
Education
Completed university degree (Bachelor/FH-Diploma) in Computer Science or comparable higher education with a focus on Computer Science. Applicants nearing completion of their studies (by end of 2025) are also eligible.
Experience
- Professional experience in Microsoft Server operating systems (Windows Server)
- Professional experience in central services (AD, GPO, DNS, DHCP, WSUS, SCCM)
- Professional experience in Microsoft Client operating systems (Windows 10)
- Professional experience in Microsoft Office products (2016 / 2024)
- Professional experience in virtualization (HyperV and VM-Ware)
- Professional experience in installation, administration, monitoring, and user support
- Experience with antivirus, storage, and backup systems
- Experience in troubleshooting servers, clients, and networks
- Experience in IT security according to BSI Basic Protection
- Experience with ITIL v3 and IT Service Management, especially Incident Management and IT Service Desk
- Participation in IT projects
