Job Summary

This role involves ensuring the safe and compliant documentation of radioactive waste for final disposal, primarily for the Konrad repository. Day-to-day tasks include verifying waste packages for repository suitability, performing activity and dose rate calculations using specialized software, and creating radiological and material descriptions of radioactive waste. The position also entails developing nuclide distributions and material vectors for declaration, planning the loading of waste containers, and preparing comprehensive documentation. Candidates should possess a degree in natural sciences or engineering, or relevant technical qualifications, coupled with a strong understanding of radiation protection regulations and experience in handling radioactive materials. The ideal candidate will have a high standard for quality, a structured approach, and the ability to integrate into complex work processes, contributing to critical nuclear decommissioning projects.

Required Skills

Education

Master's or Bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences or Engineering (e.g., (Nuclear) Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Radiation Protection), or equivalent. Alternatively, completed training and further education as a Radiation Protection Specialist, or Technician in Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.

Experience

  • Professional experience in creating repository documentation for the Konrad repository
  • Experience with decommissioning/dismantling processes, particularly in preparing and documenting residual material/waste flow
  • Knowledge of radiation protection regulations (StrISchV)
  • Experience in repository procedures
  • Experience in the treatment or conditioning of radioactive materials
