Job Summary

As a Principal Applied Scientist, you will be a senior scientific leader, developing and operating algorithmic decision components to optimize order fulfillment across Zalando's logistics centers. This role involves translating complex business problems into mathematical models, implementing them as production-ready software frameworks, and rigorously evaluating their impact through A/B testing and statistical analysis. You will lead research, development, and deployment of mathematical models and algorithms for intralogistics processes like order batching and scheduling, using approaches such as combinatorial optimization and Mixed-Integer Linear Programming. Collaborating with diverse stakeholders and mentoring other researchers, you will shape the long-term scientific vision and research roadmap, ensuring innovation translates into measurable business value and operational resilience within a vibrant community of Applied Scientists.
