Job Summary

The Earth Systems Data Manager will join the Center for Climate Systems Modeling (C2SM) at ETH Zurich, collaborating closely with the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS). This critical role involves shaping a robust data management framework to handle the rapidly growing, diverse volume of Earth observation data, including satellite and in-situ measurements, for the scientific community. Day-to-day responsibilities include identifying and evaluating relevant datasets, curating data collections to ensure quality and scientific value, and establishing metadata standards for reproducibility and discovery. The successful candidate will collaborate with an international team of researchers and developers across various disciplines (climate science, data science) to operate and advance the research platform, utilizing high-performance computing resources for analysis. This position offers the chance to work at the cutting-edge intersection of Earth system modeling, HPC, and data-driven science in an intellectually stimulating environment, contributing to impactful scientific projects and shaping modern data infrastructure.

Required Skills

Education

University Degree (Master's or equivalent) in Earth Sciences, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related technical field. A PhD in Remote Sensing or a related field is beneficial.

Experience

  • Professional experience handling petabyte-scale datasets
  • Demonstrated experience in comprehensive data management and quality control processes
  • Professional experience using scientific programming languages (Python/R/Julia) and data libraries
  • Beneficial: Experience working in interdisciplinary research environments or leading data projects
