Job Summary

The Helmholtz Institute for One Health (HIOH) is seeking a Doctoral Researcher to join the CiFly Citizen Science project. This role involves active participation in a monitoring system that uses environmental DNA (eDNA) from flies, water, and leaf swabs to assess biodiversity and antimicrobial resistance. The successful candidate will manage and analyze samples using molecular biology techniques, including eDNA isolation, PCR, metabarcoding, sequencing, and bioinformatic analysis. A key aspect of the role is preparing and conducting educational units, communicating with teachers and partners, and mentoring students in practical sessions. This position offers a unique opportunity to bridge scientific research with public engagement, working within a vibrant scientific community at one of Europe's strongest research regions.

Required Skills

Master's or Diploma degree in Biosciences or a related field

Additional

  • The initial contract is for 3 years, starting November 1, 2025. The position is based in Greifswald, Germany. Compensation is analogous to TVöD E13 (65%). A work permit for Germany is required.
