Job Summary

This Research Associate role is ideal for a highly experienced professional with a strong background in physical chemistry. The successful candidate will be deeply involved in cutting-edge research focusing on the detection, manipulation, and structural analysis of molecules and nanoparticles, including biological entities like peptides, proteins, viruses, and cells. The position requires extensive hands-on experience with ultra-cold and spatially controlled molecules, aerosol physics, vacuum systems, cryogenics, and high-energy Class 4 optical lasers, including nanosecond and femtosecond pulse lasers. You will also contribute to experiments at modern X-ray lasers and have opportunities to teach in related scientific disciplines, making this a multifaceted and impactful research opportunity.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree in Physical Chemistry or equivalent skills and experience; Dissertation in Physical Chemistry or related field

Experience

  • Many years of specialized knowledge in (ultra)cold and spatially controlled molecules and nanoparticles, particularly with peptides, proteins, viruses, and cells
  • Many years of experience in aerosol physics, operation of vacuum systems, cryogenics, and handling of Class 4 optical lasers, including high-energy nanosecond and femtosecond pulse lasers
  • Many years of experience with research at modern X-ray lasers
  • Many years of experience in planning, conducting, and evaluating experiments for the detection and manipulation of molecules and nanoparticles, and for determining the structure and dynamics of biological molecules and nanoparticles
  • Experience in teaching in Physics, Chemistry, Nanosciences, or similar degree programs
