Job Summary

This role is for a highly motivated Research Scientist (Doctoral Candidate) to join the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) in Großbeeren, near Berlin. The successful candidate will contribute to the 'PhytoM' project, focusing on understanding the mechanistic interaction of phytonutrients in plant responses to environmental factors, particularly drought stress on sulfur-containing plant compounds in Brassica vegetables. Day-to-day tasks involve designing and executing plant cultivation experiments, performing chemical analyses using advanced techniques like HPLC-MS and GC-MS, and conducting molecular biological investigations. This position offers the opportunity to pursue a PhD at the Technical University of Berlin, publish findings in international journals, and present at conferences, making it an attractive opportunity for an aspiring scientist in plant quality and food security research.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or Diploma in Biology, Food Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biosciences, or a related field

Experience

  • Experience in instrumental analytical methods (HPLC-MS, GC-MS)
  • Knowledge in preparing plant tissues for natural product extraction
  • Experience in applying molecular biological methods
  • Experience in statistical analysis of research results or willingness to acquire it
  • Willingness to undertake a multi-month research stay at another institute
