Job Summary

The Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz is seeking an internationally recognized Professor of Pharmaceutical / Medicinal Chemistry to join its Institute for Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences. The successful candidate will lead research in an active area of pharmaceutical/medicinal chemistry, preferably focusing on the synthesis and testing of small molecules and structure-activity relationship analysis. Experience in medicinal chemistry or RNA biochemistry is a plus. This role involves comprehensive teaching of pharmaceutical chemistry in German for the Pharmacy state examination program and in the Bachelor/Master Biomedical Chemistry program. The professor will actively contribute to curriculum development, secure competitive third-party funding, and engage in interdisciplinary collaborations within the university and with external research institutions. Required Skills

Education

Doctorate (Promotion) and additional scientific achievements (e.g., Habilitation, Junior Professorship, or equivalent scientific achievements).

Experience

  • International recognition in Pharmaceutical / Medicinal Chemistry
  • Proven research success, preferably in synthesis and testing of small molecules or structure-activity relationships
  • Experience in medicinal chemistry or RNA biochemistry (advantageous)
  • Successful acquisition of competitive third-party funding
  • Leadership of an independent research group
  • Active participation in research activities (e.g., SFBs, graduate colleges)
