Job Summary
The Zoological Institute at Kiel University is seeking a dedicated Research Associate to join its Vertebrate Zoology and Functional Morphology group. This role involves conducting cutting-edge research on the evolution of vertebrates, contributing to the group's innovative projects, and expanding its methodological horizons. Key responsibilities include securing external funding, teaching courses in zoology, evolution, and statistics, and mentoring students. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in biology or a related field, a completed doctorate in evolution, and expertise in areas like Evolutionary Developmental Biology, Functional Morphology, Biomechanics, or modern imaging techniques. This position offers a unique opportunity to pursue a habilitation while contributing significantly to academic research and teaching.
Required Skills
Education
University degree in Biology or a related discipline with a focus on Zoology (at least good result); Doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant discipline (at least magna cum laude) with a topic related to evolution
Experience
- Completed doctorate (at least magna cum laude) in Biology or related discipline with a focus on evolution by the time of employment
- Proven research interests aligning with the group's focus
- Successful publication of research in peer-reviewed journals
- Experience in at least one of: Evolutionary Developmental Biology (EvoDevo), Functional Morphology, Biomechanics, or Modern Imaging Techniques
- Experience in teaching (desired)
- Experience in securing third-party funding (desired)
- Practical experience with digital learning platforms (desired)
- Advanced experience in statistical data analysis using R (desired)
- Advanced experience in research data management (desired)

- Preparation for Habilitation is expected. This is a fixed-term position for three years, with potential for extension after positive evaluation. Full-time position (38.7 hours/week). Teaching commitment of four hours per week.
