Job Summary

The Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG) is seeking a Research Scientist for its "Vegetation Science, Landscape Management" division, specifically for the "Natural Climate Protection Action Program" (ANK). This fixed-term position, based in Koblenz and running until December 31, 2027, involves comprehensive research into the climate protection effects of ecological river development measures, including federal waterways. The role focuses on analyzing carbon storage in soils, sediments, and vegetation, and assessing greenhouse gas emissions from riparian and floodplain areas. The ideal candidate will evaluate existing methods for carbon sequestration measurement, apply these to real-world examples, and statistically analyze results to determine the climate protection impact of river restoration projects. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to significant environmental research within an interdisciplinary team, deriving actionable recommendations for sustainable water management and natural climate protection.
