Job Summary
The Christian-Albrechts-University zu Kiel is seeking a passionate Research Associate to join their Marine Symbioses working group. This role is ideal for a highly motivated individual with a strong background in symbiosis research, marine biology, and marine invertebrates, who is eager to pursue a habilitation. The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge research in marine symbioses using innovative bioinformatic and experimental approaches, including multi-omics data analysis, single-cell sequencing, high-resolution MS-MS proteomics, and automated microscopy with AI-driven image analysis. Beyond research, the position involves actively contributing to university teaching in biology, particularly at the introductory level. This is an exciting opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary team, collaborate with leading institutions, engage in international fieldwork, and advance a significant academic career.
Required Skills
Education
Doctorate (PhD) in Zoology or a related field (very good grade required)
Experience
- Professional experience in marine symbiosis research
- Scientific publications in bioinformatics, single-cell sequencing, high-resolution proteomics, or automated microscopy/image analysis
- Documented teaching experience in biology at university level, preferably in introductory courses
- Demonstrated experience in collaborative research (teamwork)

Additional
- Fixed-term contract for 3 years, with an option for a 3-year extension. Full-time position (38.7 hours/week). Teaching commitment of four hours per week.
