Job Summary
The University of Rostock is seeking a Technical Assistant for a two-year, full-time project focused on developing and implementing protection concepts for non-commercial fish fauna in the German Exclusive Economic Zone. This role involves crucial support for marine research, including preparing and executing sea voyages and field work, collecting samples at sea (including diving), and processing samples in the lab (eDNA and zooplankton). The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining technical equipment and managing inventory. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to significant conservation efforts aimed at strengthening fish communities in the Baltic Sea, aligning with major EU biodiversity strategies, within a supportive university environment.
Required Skills
Education
Completed vocational training as a Biological-Technical Assistant or comparable qualification. State-certified research diver training and boat license are desirable.
Experience
- Experience with multi-day sea voyages
- Prior knowledge of statistical procedures for evaluating large datasets
Languages
Additional
- Willingness and minimum physical fitness for multi-day sea voyages and field work.
- Must not have had a temporary or permanent employment relationship with the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern previously (due to specific German labor law).
