Job Summary

This role is for a dedicated Bat Specialist passionate about nature and climate protection, working with a company that ensures construction projects align with environmental regulations. The core responsibility involves conducting independent bat surveys in the field, primarily at night, from April to November. This includes handling mobile detectors, identifying bat species by sound and sight, performing detailed species identification during net capture, and utilizing radio telemetry. During the off-season (November to March), the work shifts to home-office based data analysis, interpretation, report writing, and GIS data entry. The position requires extensive travel across Germany, with accommodation and travel costs covered. It offers a permanent full-time or part-time contract, contributing to significant environmental projects in wind power, solar, and infrastructure planning.

Required Skills

Education

Bachelor's degree (BSc) in Natural Sciences (e.g., Biology, Landscape Planning, Geography, Nature/Environment/Marine Studies) or equivalent

Experience

  • Experience in independent bat surveys and field mapping
  • Experience with mobile bat detectors and sound analysis
  • Experience in detailed bat species identification during net capture
  • Experience with radio telemetry and operating receiving equipment
  • Experience with data evaluation using identification software

Languages

German (Fluent)

Additional

  • Must possess a Class B driving license or be in the process of obtaining one. Willingness to travel extensively nationwide in Germany and stay overnight in project areas from Monday to Friday. Ability to work at night and demonstrate endurance for all-night recordings.
