Job Summary

This role involves engaging in cutting-edge research and teaching within the field of sustainable metallic materials development. The successful candidate will primarily focus on a research project titled "Data-driven inverse design for improved tolerance to tramp elements in scrap-based steel production," conducted in close collaboration with the University of Oxford. Day-to-day tasks will include scientific collaboration, applying advanced simulation techniques like phase-field modeling (e.g., MICRESS), DAMASK, DFT, and molecular dynamics, alongside microstructural characterization using SEM and EBSD. This position offers a unique opportunity for doctoral studies within an international research environment, requiring a highly motivated individual with a strong background in materials science and a passion for innovative research.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering with a focus on metallic materials development through combined simulation and experimental methods. Overall Master's grade of at least 2.0 and Master's thesis graded at least "very good".

Experience

  • Professional experience in the development of metallic materials, particularly steel and aluminum alloys
  • Experience in phase-field modeling for microstructure development simulation
  • Experience with DAMASK and thermodynamic simulations
  • Experience with DFT and molecular dynamics simulations
  • Experience in microstructure characterization including SEM and EBSD, and texture component analysis with MTEX
  • Experience in research within an international environment or collaboration with international research partners (advantageous)
  • Experience in team coordination, regular scientific exchange, and project coordination (advantageous)
